Manchester United’s Silvestre has been sold to Arsenal for an undisclosed fee. In recent seasons Silvestre has found himself on the fringes of the first team squad at Old Trafford, and has jumped at the oppurtuinity to move to United’s rivals, Arsenal. The Frenchman, 31, has been a loyal servant to Manchester United over the years, however it is certainly not a big loss to United.

This evening Manchester United travel to Fratton Park to play Portsmouth. This is a very important match for Manchester United after drawing their first game of the season to Newcastle United 1-1. Last season, the result was 1-1 at Fratton Park and Portsmouth have made their home ground a difficult place to play for away sides due to the loud atmosphere of the stadium.
Carlos Tevez returns for Manchester United, and he should pair up with Wayne Rooney upfront to provide a good attacking force for Manchester United. Despite all the injury worries in the past few days, Man Utd can rely on a strong defensive unit with no injury concerns.

Reigning champions Manchester United could only manage a draw against Newcastle. Newcastle struck first with Martins, however only two minutes later Darren Fletcher pulled one back for Manchester United. Overall, a disappointing start to our title defence, however, this happened last season and Manchester United went on to lift the title.

Reports continue to mount up linking Tottenham’s Bulgarian International Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford. In recent seasons, it has become evident that Manchester United are in need of a 30 goal striker and Berbatov may just provide the Reds with this.
Berbatov will be an expensive buy, however with 23 goals last season for Tottenham it seems that he could certainly do the business at Old Trafford. He is a very clinical striker and not only converts goals but he creates them too. Watch this great video where he is scoring.
After months of transfer speculation, it appears today that Cristiano Ronaldo is staying for at least another year at Old Trafford. With Ferguson today announcing that he thought the transfer saga was over, in addition to Real Madrid purchase of Dutch international Van Der Vaart, it all but confirms that Real Madrid have finally given up with their pursuit for the Manchester United winger.

Blackburn Rovers have secured the loan signing of highly rated young Manchester United defender Danny Simpson. The right back will join Blackburn on a one year loan deal, which should give him valuable experience in the premiership.

Fletcher in recent seasons has provided good cover across the midfield, and has shown great passion and versatility in his time at Old Trafford. Many fans have been critical of him though in recent seasons, but surely we shouldn’t be cutting our squad any smaller with our opening game against Newcastle in the very near future.
